Default Hello! I'm new around here :)

Hello!
Nice to meet all of you.
I am fairly new to orchid care, however not completely. My parents have been raising orchids for close to 10 years now, and have a small collection of plants which seem to be getting more exotic as time goes on. I had a couple of orchids which did well last year in my apartment, but then died when I moved them to my parents house due to lack of adjustment for lighting/water needs.
More recently my parents have given me a small collection of orchids as a birthday gift and I am in the process of researching their needs.
I am also a student perusing a second undergraduate degree, this one being in Therapeutic recreation; a cat lover, a reptile owner, and a knitter.
Hope to have some great conversations!

Well, I posted some pictures of my new plants....with the exception of one. The plants I have are:
Dracula erythrochaete
Maxillaria tenuifolia
Cymbidium
Ludisia discolor

The Ludisia discolor does not have a photo because it is one I've had for awhile, and very recently my cat snapped the growth off. I kept it as it did not turn brown or rot and I just started seeing a new sprout last week. Really, it's nothing to see.

I'm pretty excited to see the Dracula bloom, and I'm nervous about the Cymbidium care...not sure if I can get it cold enough without it being eaten by said cat.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Aboard synlorna, great that you moved into the neighborhood. A great place to hang out and learn.

What a wonderful birthday gift. I know I have many birthdays throughout a year. We are all addicted.

Check out the AOS for some cultural info sheets on a variety of orchids.
