Hello from the Philippines Male
Default Hello from the Philippines

Hi Everybody,
British but retired and loving life in the Philippines. I am currently developing an interest in cultivating orchids. My lovely wife keeps buying them in the market and once they stop flowering she buys more. Feeling sorry for the dead, dying and discarded I thought that I would try to do more for their welfare. Searching for information and literature in English has been confounded by most being about how to grow in temperate climates. It doesn’t snow here!
I have something of a botanical background and I quickly realised that to provide the best care you need to identify the little blighters, not easy I have realised. Most are Dendrobiums (Dendrobia?) and Vandas, but with some other weirdos.
My current task is propagating Dendrobiums and producing a photo catalogue. However, most are not in flower and get a number.
So begins the journey.

Welcome!
Congratulations on starting your orchid fetish somewhere that they like to be outdoors year around.
Unlike if you had started in the UK and had to build a greenhouse and heat it and have lights.........ha ha

I started like that in New England but eventually moved my collection to the Florida Keys. My collection has morphed over the years to be exclusively warm growers but honestly, they do so well I almost feel like I'm cheating some days.

Enjoy the journey!

Welcome! If you ever go to Manila, the Philippine Orchid Society has an upcoming mid-year orchid show in September. Lots of orchids and its nice to make friends with the local growers. Good luck!
