Hi everyone,

I couldn't resist and ordered 5 more orchids from Belgium. They'll be shipped on Monday.
  • Coelogyne cristata
  • Restrepia guttulata
  • Sarcochilus fitzgeraldii
  • Tolumnia variegata var. rosea
  • Dendrobium densiflorum

The Dendrobium is 3 or more years from flowering but I think the flowers are worth to wait.

All plants are out of my comfort zone. I think I can offer them the right conditions to flourish. Time will tell.

Ooooh! Now you can join the 2023 Sarcochilus project!

Anyone want to try Sarcochilus as the spring 2023 plant project?

Awesome, Later tonight I'll read the topic you mentioned. I still remember the Haraella odorata project from (longer than) a decade ago. That was fun!

Are you certain you are not going to reach 300?

At least not within a year!

Somehow I fell in love with Paphiopedilum. Bonus, they are very easy to grow for me. I bought Pinocchio because it's a sequential bloomer and of course it's easy to grow for me. I bought Paph. primulinum because it's a sequential bloomer too. Would be nice to have several sequential bloomers, isn't it.
But oh my, Paphiopedilum can be very expensive here so I'm on the hunt for young plants. I think I found a source but previous time I wasn't happy with the quality of the plants.

Forgot to mention that I also bought Paphiopedilum Ma Folie. A think this hybrid is created by Akerne Orchids in Belgium.

Edit: Oh I did mention, honestly I only ordered 1 Ma Folie

I plead guilty.

Added: Paphiopedilum Leeanum, Paphiopedilum USA (NOID), Dendrobium Berry Oda.
Found the Paph's in a hardware store, off all places.

Hi Nicole,
welcome back. I have just joined the forum. Still finding my way around.
I see you are getting into paphs, they are very forgiving which I like. I mean I go for the most challenging a lot but the problem with the most chalenging is that it can fail far more.
Go for forgiving and the plants live forever without having to do much right.

On to that note I want to push you on to the 2024 plant project (sarcos are so last year lol), Tolumnia's

I have ordered mine. They are arriving next week.

I see you did order one just recently, how is it doing? Hope I can get just one member I can compare progress with this year lol.

I don't often agree with much I read on this forum which is a real shame so I'm hoping there will be something this forum can offer instead.

Imagine you were a chicken keeper and wanted to discuss chicken farming and the only forums you could discuss chicken keeping was on forums where chicken butchers hang out. You ask what is wrong with my chicken and the only answer you get is, what is wrong with your chicken is that its not in a soup yet.

Anyway I hope I can find some way to participate here more.

I killed 2 Tolumnia's in 6 months . During summer they did well but once I had to take them indoors they went downhill fast, it was to be expected. That's why I'm not going to participate this spring project. Humidity during winter is way to low (30-40%) and I'm not ready to invest in a terrarium-like setting for 1 species.
Without I can't keep up with misting/watering them.

I did join a project years ago with the Haraella odorata end the 20023 project Sarcochilus.

To be honest, I want to collect more Sarcochilus, and I have a awesome source for them, but I have to order them online, get them every now and then. Recently added 2.
I'm hooked on these little beauties. Currently 2 of them have the beginning of 2 spikes each.
I like them better than the Paph. Also size wise.

Paph's are easy to get here but can get very expensive, I doubt I'll add a substantial number in the future because of that. But I found a source for young plants which are cheaper, so maybe...
I would like to have some multi floral.

Most of them I have to order online but yesterday I stumbled upon the USA hybrid and the Leeanum, in a hardware store of all places. Wasn't shopping for orchids, but for me, in the past, they were easy bloomers. And it's always nice to have something blooming during the dark winter months.

In the past I had many Dendrobiums. Adding a few for fun, easy growers for me too. Have a young densiflorum, 2-3 years from flowering. It does well.
Might add some more Den's too. That Berry Oda is such a plant that I added for fun. Easy to grow, dainty little flowers which smell heavenly. But very common here. Maybe too common to collect.

An updated list of what I'm currently growing.

The Maxillaria tenuifolia I bought from Claessen in the Netherlands. It was supposed to be a big plant, but it appeard to be 2 tiny plants, over potted. I potted these separetely in a 2.7 inch pot.

A Maxillaria variabilis from Akerne in Belgium, a beautiful and large plant.

Also from Akerne: Rhynchobrassoleya Copper Queen 'Exotic Ripper'.

And again from Akerne, Cymbidium floribundum (China).
