The avg. difference in temp. is about 10 degrees in winter when they are indoors. It varies in summer. Upstate NY weather can be a bit crazy.

Norman Feng says that the lighting can be changed (phrag pot moved further from light) to change the light, heat ratio during the hottest time of the summer.I guess in the same way that someone with a greenhouse would put extra shade cloth on the top of the greenhouse. This would not happen in nature though. Only when culturing in buildings.

If you're growing that far north your winter days may be too dark and short. Even in a window plants don't get much light during cloudy spells. Consider supplemental lighting in winter to extend daylength to 10-12 hours.

I totally agree. When I had orchids before this, I just used regular room lighting at first and did not get a lot of growth, and lost a lot of my plants. I got cheap grow lights, and I tried putting them outside, but they really started to grow and flower when I got good LED grow lights (the kind used for inside cannabis growing) with a "vegetation" and "flower" setting. Now I still have them near the window (for some natural lighting) but I have the grow light on as well.
