New Member ...Lover of Orchids!
Hello all, Max here... I grew up in Miami, so always saw wild orchids, (wild and naturalized big ones in the neighbors trees), and went to Fairchild Tropical gardens often as a kid. We had a Cyrtopodium punctatum on the tree in the back yard, and only flowered the year before we moved so have a soft spot for that species. I've always had a few Orchids growing but mostly grow Dyckia (Broms) for the past few years. Making up for lost time and treated myself to a few I wanted.... Ansellia africana, Schomburgkia, I guess Myrmecophila now?..( I loved saying Schomburgkia!...I digress). Still on a quest to find a Cyrt. punctatum to make the journey come full circle!...Never could find the Cyrt. or Ansellia a few months ago, but when I found a thread on flasking orchid seed...someone offered some seed to try so made up 4 jars and 2 were successful! It's only been a few weeks so don't want to get too excited yet...but hey, I have Protocorms!!! WooHoo....and so the best kind of 'addiction' has started! I should also add I did find some Ansellia at SVO recently, so I won't have to wait a year or more to see some plants growing....

Welcome Max! I'm interested to hear about your flasking adventures; that's something I'd like to do at some point.

I started with this guys blog..very good info. Found a pressure cooker, plastic storage box and made a flow hood with a hepa filter etc etc..2 started growing so sometimes the smallest success can be really rewarding!

I've read and watched his stuff - very helpful for the hobbyist! I'll wait a bit until I've got seeds to work with and then dive right in...as if orchid culture weren't complex enough!
