Nice to meet you too! I will try indeed something more challenging. I have already started ;-)

Do you know how to upload pictures? I attach them as jpg attachments (respecting size and dimension limits) but nothing happens; I do not see them posted.

Thx.

I use the paperclip icon and then upload the image, and c&p it's url into the pop up from the image icon to link it in. It's a bit clunky but works. Also note the site won't autorotate the images or at least I didn't figure out how to yet.

The lighting is for an area? or for a shelf? or how is the setup? ... you can share a photo is you'll like :-). You could as well share the brand ( I am always looking for a good lighting)

In regards to humidity, you may want to take into consideration that big flowers plants like Phals; the flowers themselves don't appreciate humidity that high. The plant developed roosts and leaves OK, but flowers tend to die, with humidity that high.
- This is the light I used:
Relassy Plant Lamp 75W Full Spectrum Plant Light with 3/6/12 Hour Timing Function
- below two pics of the Phals
- and also pics of other smaller orchids I have just started to grow in the small stealth grow room
- teh light there is a viparspectra XS1000

Cheers,
Davide

Wish I received such praise without having posted any pictures to the world but that is life isn't it.

Some grow for decades and nobody notices. Someone just starts and they are the most skilled about.

But then I think I am looking into that a bit too much aren't I..

DavTom, do you have a wattmeter to measure the wattage your lights use?

The only reason I ask this is because the relassy light has a defect imo.

If you have a watt meter see what wattage it consumes at the 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.

I'd be interested to see what yours draws at those levels. If yours ahs the same defect then you will notice what I mean but I'm not entirely sure if my watt meter was being accurate or some other issue.

Are you using the viparspectra at 100% power? It would be quite powerful for such a small space. My equivalent powered light is being used to light a much much bigger area but I do wonder if I should be using more light.

For your space I only use a light that is 5 times weaker than the viparspectra..

I think so yes, you sound like you know what your skill level is and how it compares to the herd, whereas davtom seems not to. Most folks I know that are into orchids are barely at the level of remembering to fertilize let alone can speak confidently about nitrate sources. I'd assume if you are an old hand on a board like this you are in the elite already. I mean most folks think phals are "hard"... and I bet you don't right?

No, I do not have (yet) a wattmeter, but before buying that light I have spent hours watching reviews from sources that I trust. At 100% that light drives 120W instead of the claimed 100W by the company. The PAR footprint is also 20% lower than the claimed PAR by the company. But this is considered very good as other brands are off by 50% or more! Yes, that light is oversized for that space. I ran it at about 50% to get a PAR of 350 for the Cattleya, which is the most demanding one there. I have a couple of Phal in the corners where it drops to 200 PAR. I preferred an over sized lamp because I want to be free in future to use it with non-orchids plants. Ah, I was forgetting...120 at 100%, 60 wstts at 50% and so on This was measured in one of the reviews I wstched.

Cheers,
Davide
