Hi I am Shelia in TN. I have just purchase my first Phalaenopsis Orchid. Suppose to be easy to care for and hard to kill. I hope Evergreene is right.

Hey Sheilia, welcome! All I know is that you have to try hard not to kill them with kindness (ie don't over water). I tend to do that. This is a great place to get any inforamation you need! (I'm in Wisconsins btw)

Welcome, Shelia.
Strangely enough, I still have my first Phal from almost 12 years ago, despite my better efforts to love it to death! Glad you joined. Check out the newbies and the phal genus areas for sure! The board has some great info on care for your new baby. Enjoy!

Hi Sheila, Phals are my favorite as they seem to last a long long time and look so beautiful. I think you made an excellent choice. Medium light for these guys. They are very forgiving, but never leave water in the crevices of the plant or on the leaves by evening or you'll risk root rot.
There is a culture sheet on Phals somewhere on the OB home page.

Glad you have joined us at the OB
Here is the OB Phal care sheet - http://www.orchidboard.com/Phalaenop...ure-Care-Sheet
the Beginners forum - http://www.orchidboard.com/community...er-discussion/
and Phalaenopsis forum - http://www.orchidboard.com/community...psis-alliance/
Scan through the threads .. they are packed full of information
Never put a phal in direct sunlight .. it will burn the leaves .. they love bright indirect light .. if by a southern window, a sheer curtain helps to disperse any direct sunlight coming through.

Thanks everyone, I think I will learn alot from the forum. I was told to mist my plant every morning, but I started seeing the pods fall of instead of blooming. I quit doing the misting every morning and am watching to see if that helps. I so much want it to bloom. There are about six more on the plant.
