Wilkommen!

Danke! I am so pleased you like it here. I can recommend visiting Zeche Zollverein or the German mining museum in Bochum (a neighbouring city) if you haven't already. And if you want to see a very beutiful and old city centre, Hattingen-Altstadt is your adress

Welcome to the Orchidboard, Leo. It's been 20 years since I've spent any time in Germany, but even back then the bahnhof in Cologne had a nice selection of orchids for sale.

Leo! Never been to Germany, but husband used to live there and loved it. Hamburg is where my maternal great grandparents originated.

Your command of the English language has already surpassed my German language skills. Here's what I know...

Kartoffel, nein, ja, gesundheit, ein bier bitte, and wo ist das badezimmer? Yep, that's about it, other than a couple of phrases not usable here. The rest is fairly self-explanatory that I know, other than potato. My Great Aunt Martha Boh, when it was thundering outside, would always say in German "The old woman in the sky dropped her potatoes again." Somehow "kartoffel" has always been remembered by me.

Hello from Essen, Burgaltendorf! I'm a expat from the USA but my wife is from here. Nice to see another new forum member from the area. Orchids bring some comfort on this snowy April day.

You're so right – this is the worst Easter weather I can remember. Especially after the last years when day temps used to be in the low 70s around this time of year
