Welcome! In your climate you can probably grow Pleurothallis tarantula quite easily.

Awesome.
Thanks for the nice welcome guys.
I'm currently living in Yorkshire, in the north.
But you may be surprised to know that I spent 4 years in Alaska, 2 years in VA and 1 year in NC, as well as a few years in Europe.
So I consider myself pretty "international" at this point.
I keep my living room "warm" - about 70 - 75F year round, as I have some tarantulas as pets (well behaved, not at all scary as the media would have you believe) and so this is a good climate for some warmer orchids.
The other rooms of the house range from 40F to 60F throughout the year, so I have plenty of scope to grow different species, although I am still very much a "newbie" when it comes to orchids.
I have so much to learn, and will be asking lots of questions. Hope thats OK.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

O&T!
Yep, asking questions is one of the reasons to be here... to learn, and then to assist. We're also very good at getting folks addicted to more, more, more orchids.
With the different temps in your living space (40F...Brrr!) you should have a pretty good setup to grow a lot of different types.

If I had lived in England and had a 40 degree / 5C room I would keep a barrel of English beer on tap.

Yep, most folks do that. We are known for drinking a lot in this country
Although it's not 40F in that room year round... just in the winters of course.
