Hi from Alaska!
Good afternoon! I’ve only been growing orchids for a few years and have moved from a single brassia and some grocery store phals to a few dozen plants of all different varieties. My climate air is dry, dark, and cool in the winter and warm, more humid, and bright in the summer. The poor plants have to move around the house to keep them in optimal conditions all year long.
I have a number of nice, healthy, ided plants, but I have a deep love of abandoned, diseased, neglected, “trash” orchids. I love them when they’re tiny and withered and falling apart! I love back bulbs and cuttings and keikis. I love when someone complains about a dying orchid and I get the opportunity to bring it back to life. I love getting random “rescue” orchid boxes off ebay and seeing what the plants look like in bloom. Having a big, pretty, reliable orchid is great...and I have a number of those...but the puzzle that comes with figuring out what is wrong with a plant and fixing it is way more enjoyable!
I love this forum and have been lurking for years, gathering wonderful information...it just seemed like a good time to stop lurking and say “hello” and “thank you”!
