Hello from Germany Male
Default Hello from Germany

My name is Peter, I am cultivating orchids over 8 years now. And killed a few in this time as well.
A month ago I started to get into S/H and thought join this forum might be helpful.

Welcome to Orchidboard Peter! You've come to the right place to learn about S/H, the person who developed the method is a very active member here.

Welcome, Peter!

We have all killed a few... Part of the learning process. If you never get out of your comfort zone for fear of failure, how can you ever expand your interest? I am looking forward to photos of your successes!

as far as I am aware he doesn't use the method himself because it doesn't work in his climate .

I would be more intersted in seeing some good results of this supposed great method and not just a freshly potted phal a month into it but that will probably never happen.

Token, please stop taking a stab at Ray every chance you get, especially in a new member's thread. You are free to not like s/h, but there is plenty of evidence of its long time success. Perhaps you could create a thread asking about people's long term success with the method if you are really interested in knowing, other the search function is a good place to start.

Wrong again.

I have some plants that have been growing in S/H culture for over 20 years.

I did change my phals from S/H culture to sphagnum in Air-cone pots when I moved and no longer had a greenhouse. Winters indoors are just too dry, so the evaporative cooling was a bit much, and I didn't want to add heat mats to my mix.
