Default Hello - Northern Virginia New Orchid Grower here

Hello!

I've been growing box-store-orchids for about a year now. I felt I'd at least give it a bit before I got serious, as I've heard that they are difficult to grow, etc. So, after a year and my first zero-to-almost bloom spike is here - I feel confident to even post!

My adventurous cat decided to take out (and I mean eviscerate) one of my three Phalaenopsis plants so I went and got one and... to my chagrin, lost the ID. I'll open up a thread for that in the ID area - but for now, I have two small Phals and a NoID.

Been reading through various forums and felt like this one was a good one to stick with.

I've uploaded an "in the afternoon dark" photo of my three happily growing orchids by way of introduction.

- Dustin

Hi Dustin, welcome! Not sure if you got an ID for that one yet, but it looks to me like a Masdevallia or Dracula. They do have a reputation for being more "difficult", but either way it looks happy to me. Good luck!

Welcome! If your cat develops a taste for orchids it is hard to fight it.
