Default Hello from the Lurker near Chicago!

Hi All!

I've been lurking around here long enough. I want to say hello to everyone!

I joined the VIP club here too, just because I've already gleaned a lot of info just by lurking.

I hope you can all welcome me. I need some help now, I got root rot! Not sure where to post that, I will start looking!

Thanks and talk to you all soon.

Oh, and to all: Stay safe, hope you and yours are all well. And if you're not, may you be well soon.

Welcome Deerfern, I am a new member, since Dec. and fairly new to orchids.
You will get good advice here about root rot. I have had some when transplanting a new plant with moss pug and bark to semi hydro. I personally clean it up, use some hydrogen peroxide on the root mass left after cleaning it with lukewarm running water.

The members and moderaters that have been here for a long time, will probably ask, as they did me, for more information, age of plant, medium, light, humidity and temp and type of orchid that has the root rot. They have been very patient with me, for I have probably tried theirs, for I am a bit of a motor mouth.

And as a new grower and somewhat digitally challenged, it took me a while and lots of help from many here, to teach me how to put on Photos of the plant and roots.

Close to Chicago covers a lot of area. I'm on the east side at the tip of the Lake, Michigan City.

Welcome. You'll learn even. More.

Didn't know there's a VIP club around here.
Anyway, welcome Deerfern.

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome! I really appreciate it. Just got done with arguing with the Ebay seller for shipping me a rotted plant. I like the little guy, and they just wanted to argue and attempted to intimidate me. Didn't work, sorry, I'm not that much of a newbie. Just past a newbie, whatever that would be.

Next -- the VIP club I meant, is actually a Forum Supporter.

Dollythehun, I'm in Schaumburg, IL. It's the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, we have the Great and Powerful Woodfield Mall. (haha) Which by the way is now closed due to our recent virus outbreak.... now I gotta walk around the cul-de-sac I live in instead of the heated/a/c mall...

I'm going to look up how to post pics of this plant I have with root rot. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

I know exactly where you are. We have an office there and I occasionally go there for staff meetings. Mercifully, we now use zoom. You are SO close to Hausermans, and Nats!

Never been to Nats, actually I just found out about them a few months ago! Not sure what rock I've been under, but I have gone to Hausermann's since I was a kid. Maybe we will run into each other sometime!
