Welcome Russ!
I too am a master gardener in MO and NM.
NM is all sand and dry where I live and still have a lot to learn. I am new to orchids and have learned so much from the group of experienced experts with many years and many genus. Not sure I said that right.
You will understand what my father Earl Gardner said in Sept after plowing the half acre garden. "Just 7 more months and I can plant again." One of my favorite sayings. The other story is of my grandparents in their huge garden, I was always in the garden with them from the time I was a wee one/ Grandma was in her chair and as usual . Telling grandpa what to do. she always planted her flowers near the house. GP never talked back to her, but this one spring he got even for her bossy chatter.
"Roe Gardner, you chopped down my flowers Again.
He said not a word, hummed a little song and kept hoeing.
I come from a long line of Gardner/Gardeners. Sorry this was off topic, but I needed to share these stories.
