Aloha!
Aloha from Hawaii. I'm Miki and have been growing orchids for maybe 30 years. Primarily Catts, but some Vanda, Phals., and now Cymbidiums and Catasetinae. I do hybridizing but am not a real technical kind of breeder. I just find what appeals to me and try to do something with it. My main interests are in unusual hybrids that are also nice and can be grown/bloomed in warm climates.
Would enjoy hearing from others who grow and/or hybridize Catasetinae and/or Cymbidiums. Looking forward to learning and sharing information.

Welcome aboard, Miki. You certainly live in one of the best places on earth to grow orchids. Keep us posted on your hybridizing. Sounds fascinating. Above all, have fun here.

I live on the island of Hawaii, near the city of Hilo. Some image have just been posted in my album so please take a look. Been trying to upload images all morning but it'll only let me do one at a time (except for the first time when I did 10).

Cool! I have been only once to Big Island, but stayed with relatives in Kona (well, actually "Waikoblowa" ) Went to Hilo and that side of the Island is beautiful to be sure. Bought orchids at Bergstroms and that was a mistake (Hope you guys aren't friends.) Glad to have met you on the board.

Yeah, "Waikoblowa" usually does. I guess that's why very few people there have orchids (except maybe just a few).
I do know Bill. He told me he was closing his nursery and moving back to the mainland. Think his kids are on the west coast somewhere. Don't know when he'll do that, he's been trying to sell the nursery for several years now.

Yes, all of the images are not overly large (usually under 40K).

He told me the same thing - going to Oregon (I think). His setup was questionable to me (sorry, but I have to be honest). He told me "Don't worry I'll make a tag for everything" Yes he did and apparently made up most of them which have all died since. Glad you are here to help us with the Orchid Isle!
