Hello from NE Philadelphia PA suburbs
Howdy!
We’re about an hour outside of Philadelphia and currently have roughly a dozen Phals of various sizes and types growing in moss, bark and now in LECA S/H. My young daughter likes them and helps me choose new ones.
They grow indoors, on a table near a shaded southern window, with a bit of supplemental light to keep them happy. Sheers over the window help normalize the temp and light. The house is kept warm, 71-74, most of the time though, being near a window, they do get a bit more variation than the rest of the house.
So far, so good for the past 2 years or so. Other than a few minor pest problems on new plants (quarantine is a great practice!) all has been good. We’ve had lots of new roots, leaves, stalks and flowers.
On occasion, especially vacation, I’ve overstretched watering intervals and lost some blooms, but think I’ve learned my lesson.
I have tried, not too successfully, to dye a stalk of orchids as an experiment for my daughter. Very exciting, and we did get colored blooms, but ultimately we had to get rid of the stalk.
We just began S/H with a handful of regular and mini Phals and are waiting to see how it goes.
Thanks for all the help.
