I did question this situation in my mind before - such as wondering what's the reason for covering tracks and ID, but still leave cookie crumbs (trail/clues - ie. 30 years of orchid experience and green-houses) that could allow members to guess or figure out their previous ID and hence name.

The opening post says "I want to contribute but if people are offended because they don't like to hear the constructive truth".

This draws attention, as it could mean that contributions were made, but possibly some of them could have rubbed fur the wrong way ..... or could have conveyed points in a positive/neutral/social manner, instead of an anti-social manner. But nobody knows - because IDs are not being revealed.

On the other hand, I didn't notice anything bad when truthsayer was posting under 'claypot'.

Hopefully details about the reason for the disappearance of 'claypot' from the member database is revealed when Camille gets back.

Sorry... not sorry... but must inject humor. Anyone else feel like they're watching Mystery Theater?

This thread has certainly stimulated comments, thank you. Honestly, there is no cloak and dagger stuff about revealing my real name.
When I joined the forum all those years ago I used an ID which rather naively identified me quite closely which was no consequence as "just another name" on the forum. As is evident, this thread has generated interest which has raised the profile should my ID be in open forum. Now, here in UK we do have some nasty people who have all sorts of ways to track down and make money from unexpecting people. In the orchid category I know of entire collections which have disappeared overnight. In other examples only specialist plants have been taken. Having tried to establish my credibility on this thread I have said what my specialism is, hence my sincere desire not to give clearer identification.
This probably does seem strange to uninitiated onlookers but having taken 30+ years to work towards perfection I will protect that at all costs.

Miracles do seem to happen! I have just tried to reply to a thread using CLAYPOT and was accepted! I checked the member list too and it has been updated. Maybe Camille has reloaded/reset something....Very grateful thanks for sorting this out. If I was not banned it had to be something basic.
I'll wait a few days to make sure things are stable then cease using this ID.

'Claypot' is indeed back on the member list. Either Camille or somebody has gone into sort it out or - maybe there is some system behaviour that us users aren't aware of - such as a script detecting a certain period of user inactivity, and then temporarily removing the member name from the member list, which then takes time to re-activate if the member eventually logs in again.

I agree about the benefits of keeping a low-profile in terms of name/identity. That is to protect orchid collections and other issues.

You might as well just start using 'Claypot' again, since it is working again. Give it a good test-run test-drive.

I communicated with her earlier today. Apparently, she's going through the backlog of PM's and clearing things up.

Things are working smoothly so I consider this tread complete so is closed as far as I am concerned. If there is a way to remove the ID please go ahead.
My grateful thanks to all contributors for their understanding and comments during my frustrations. Whatever gremlin got in there was a pain.
Happy orchid growing.

Thanks claypot. Good to hear.

As for closing threads ..... I don't think forum threads need to be closed in general, unless some discussions gets out of control, heated etc.

We can understand your frustrations. Just remember ----- just like orchid growing, and many other things, patience and keeping calm, and approaching things systematically and sensibly is a good thing. So if in future there are any issues with anything, just send out a positive note in this section, and members/admins can help you out.

Finally ----- welcome back!
