Hello everyone and happy new year!

New member here from NYC, I've stumbled upon the forum many times in the past from Google searches seeking answers—browsed around for the past few days and decided to join you fine folk!

Been a hobby horticulturist ever since I can remember... Always have had a passion for plants from a very young age.

I've been successful at growing almost every plant, even have bred Clivia and other things... Yet I've killed every orchid I've ever owned.

I've vowed that 2015 will be the year my orchids live and thrive hahaha—but I'll need your help!

I currently own two phals and one oncidium.

Look forward to hanging around the forum!

One of the Phal I purchased not in bloom or with a spike and it was simply labeled "white".

The other Phal came with a tag that's not totally legible but says "sweet Maui sunset". I've attached a photo and a photo of the tag.

The Oncidium same thing... No ID

Any ideas on the Maui or the Oncidium?

It took me 5 years back in the mid 70s to start getting them to live. Now with the endless amount of available information at one's fingertips you'll be getting on the right track in no time.

Joey, welcome aboard.

You are very lucky. Orchids prefer very pure water with low dissolved solids content, and NYC tap water is some of the best in the country.

I'm going to take a shot at a piece of advice that may help: unlike terrestrial plants, orchids have evolved to doing a major part of their respiratory gas exchange processes through their roots, rather than leaves. If you can maintain the potting media open and airy, while supplying sufficient moisture, you are well along the learning curve to good orchid culture.
