Orchid ID (with no flowers)

Can anyone tell me what these two orchids are? They were part of a rescue haul.

The last three pics are all of the same orchid. I think it might be an encyclia? It is basically bare-rooted/mounted in a bird cage, putting off tons of new root growth. Should I change that?

Yes, these could be Encyclia. You could repot now with new root growth. Does the person remember what the flowers looked like?

Encyclia seems like a reasonable guess in light of the fact that there are no flowers. I suppose it could be an intergeneric hybrid involving Encyclia as well. Good luck.

If it's happy with the current growing situation, and you have no reason to suspect that situation to be problematic, no need to change it. A lot of these things like a rapid wet-dry cycle, so bear root mounted probably works well as long as you can keep it reasonably watered in hot, bright weather.

If you don't like the aesthetics of its current potting situation, then you might consider your options, like perhaps moving it into a wooden basket or mounting it to a different type of substrate.

Thanks! I had not considered that the little one could be encyclia, too. I'll need to check to make sure that its growing conditions are appropriate.

My friend has no idea what the flowers looked like. They were left in her yard when she bought the house, and I rescued them about a year later when she decided to rip out all of her lovely tropicals and replace it with......turf. All of the rescues were 100% neglected for at least 12 months, but they seem to be doing well. I may lose the dendrobiums I tried to transplant from a palm tree, but I tried.

I actually love the big one in the birdcage, and it seems to be doing well, so I think I'll leave it. I would lose a lot of older roots if I tried to remove it from the wood they are growing on.

The only thing I'm nervous about is that the leaves seem to be getting a little streaky. It was suggested that it might just need fertilizer. Since it has no media, I'm not sure how to make sure it's getting the fertilizer it needs....

I love the look of the one in the birdcage. And it appears very happy. I wouldn't move it either... great idea for a mount. So just fertilize weakly and move forward... time will tell.

No flowers... But I say maybe has E. belizensis in its background?
