Doritaenopsis and dtna.???
Most of my orchid collection is made up of noid rescues and only a very few have name tags. Last year I spotted a beautiful healthy orchid at a local grocery store. I didn't even look at the tag because it looked like a Phal. Impulsively I purchased this yellow blooming beauty, repotted it, and have been treating it like a Phal. Only today did I discover that it is a Doritaenopsis Limon Living Color. Duh. I also discovered a tag on one of my other so called Phals. It has dtna. Tropical Meaty Wave Everglade written on the tag. I've done some research on the name and can't find any info. Does anyone know what dtna. stands for? Thanks.

Hello Junebug,
My guess would be that dtna might also stand for Doritaenopsis, even though the proper abbreviation should be dtps.
Just a guess...

... Orchidwiz has no Dtna listed.
As Margit suggests, it could just be a misprint.
There is a Dtha listed...which is a Dorthera...a hybrid in the vandaceous family (excluding Phals) consisting of Doritis and Renanthera.

There is also no registered hybrid with the word "meaty" in it.
Are you sure you're reading that correctly?

The thing about tags is that they can be a bit difficult to decipher .. dtna .. is probably for Odtna.
Your orchid is tagged as Odontonia Tropical Heat Wave - 'Everglades' is the cultivator .. The following is from RHS
Odontonia Tropical Heat Wave = Miltonia spectabilis + Odontoglossum Hyperry
Registrant - Everglades
Originator - Hamilton
Date of registration - 4/22/1996
Odontonia Tropical Heat Wave 'Everglade' looks like this - scroll all the way down and look for the description on the right and the picture to the left - Oncidiinae Intergenerics
and here - Odontonia Tropical Heat Wave 'Everglades' AM/AOS pictures from flowers photos on webshots

LOL...Ray, thanks for pointing that out! I just can't multi-task like I used to
Odontonia Tropical Heat Wave
(Miltonia spectabilis x Odontoglossum Hyperry)
I saw this at our meeting a few months ago...gorgeous and an Odont that does well in our extreme heat.

Thank you for your responses. I checked out Dorothy's photo link and my orchid doesn't look a thing like it. I'm having difficulty posting a photo here so I posted 2 new photos in my gallery so you can see what I'm talking about. One photo is the actual bloom and the other is the tag that came with it. Me thinks someone switched the tag cause it looks like a Phal. If it looks like a Phal and acts like a Phal it probably is a Phal. What do you think?

Oh, it a Phal alright .. and a wannabe Odontonia ..
It could be Dtps. Tropical Misty Wave .. but I can't find that on the RHS registry ..
(There should be more 'meaty' Phals .. )

I know that tags can be dislogded and misplaced into the wrong plant. I hear this happens quite often with big-box and grocery store orchids. That may be what happened here.
