Hi everyone,
This orchid came to me as a gift and I do not know the name. Its health has been in decline for a while now (it's been 8 months) The stalks are mostly empty (the inside is hollow when you squeeze them) The flowers were orange and very small, never seen an orchid like this before. It never flowered after the original flowers were gone. While taking these photos, I also noticed that there are extremely small bugs moving around at the base of the plant. It still has some green leaves and I am hoping that I can save it. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Looks like some sort of warm growing dendrobium.
I'd make sure you have fresh potting media, and decently warm growing room. keep it watered over the next few weeks, and hope for the best.

From your description of the canes, the main plant is dead.

For the future, your medium is too small or is extremely degradated. And the pot is too big.
Use something like coarse bark with LEKA. It needs good drainage, something is doesn't seem to have right now.

Repot the keikis as soon as their roots are 5 cms long in a small pot with the medium mentioned above. In the meanwhile, mist them with a spray and use some kelp based product to promote root growth.

Thanks for all the replies. I think it's a Dendrobium Firebird (after seeing photos on the net). I was under the impression that it was bought from a specialist who knew the best medium and pot, but not necessarily so. The medium is packed and covered with some sort of moss (the seller said it's healthy for the plant) but I read in various places that it likes airy medium. I will try to save the keikis.

p.s. I apologize for the extreme inconvenience caused by the orientation of one photo. It looks fine on the computer and this forum does not preview before loading.

It appears that SillyKeiki does not know that there is sometimes a problem with the orientation of pictures that you upload. Maybe you can figure out the solution, SillyKeiki?
