Classified Ad Like looking for a needle in the haystack

I picked this up today and the tag says 'Chain Xen Pearl' I think its supposed to be spelled 'Chian Xen Pearl' but what ever the spelling I don’t think that this is the correct I.D. for this Phal anybody care to take a guess..? I should have taken the pics in daylight I’m not sure if the color looks that accurate in the night photo..?

Don't know the correct name but that's a very lovely phal! Great choice.

It's Chain - Check this thread out - http://www.orchidboard.com/community...xen-pearl.html
I found it's parent's for Al on the RHS Registry
It's a Dtps. or Doritaenopsis now considered a Phalaenopsis by some ..

I LOVE the color and shape of that flower. If only I had room for more phals...

Hi Jo Ann,
It's a beautiful Phal. no matter what the name which in this case seems to be rather difficult to tie down for sure. Mine has a totally different flower shape, i.e. squared off dorsal sepal and the two bottom sepals barely show. Also the blossoms on mine tend to face downward, more like a Cym. and, of course, mine is a totally different color. Here is one link that has Chian in the name:
http://www.orchidhub.com/images/phal...ker_beauty.JPG

and another that looks more like mine but is Chain:
Dtps. Chain Xen Pearl 'Christmas' - Big Leaf Orchids

All very confusing. I've also noticed that "Pearl" is used as a clonal name as well as "Joy" and "Christmas" and then there Chain Xen Pearl "Joy" and Chain Xen Pearl "Christmas" and on and on!!

I'm just calling mine beautiful.
Al

Hi, Jo Ann.

I agree that this is not 'Chain Xen Pearl'. I believe I have the same orchid. I will try to post some pictures, but I just registered to the website earlier this week, and this is my first post. I bought this orchid almost a year ago, I believe as a seedling. I think mine is a miniature as it's leaves have remained very small. When I bought it there were 5 flowers total. Right now, there are 8 in bloom and 4 buds yet to open. Unfortunately there was no tag when I purchased it and I've been trying to identify it ever since. I was very happy to see your post! If anyone can give a proper identification I would be very pleased.

Hi Ethan...

Welcome to the OB…

That’s exactly the one I got your daylight pics show the color much better then mine …I to hope someone can give it a name but with so many hybrids out there that’s why I say its like looking for a needle in the haystack…I got mine from Lowes so god only knows where it was grown they probably just stuck any label in there that was handy…
