My wife was given this plant 5 years ago and she was told it was an orchid. It grows in dirt. I treat it like the rest of the house plants, out on the deck after last frost in before the first. Where every flower opens on the "spike" a new growth/plant/keiki develops complete with roots. We get many, many new babies every year.
Imo that's a type of Iris, probably in the Pacifica Iris group. Take a bloom to a local Nursery or Botanic Garden to be sure.....
