What is the proper name for this orchid? Male
Default What is the proper name for this orchid?

I just found this orchid today at my local supermarket very cheap! The label is very unhelpful and says "Speciality Orchid" haha!

Can you please tell me what the name is please? It seems to be in good shape. A new spike is growing and looks like it had lots of healthy pseudo bulbs!

Thanks.

Kev.

Conceivably it’s a Bratonia, an intergeneric cross between a Brassia and a Miltonia. I have one that’s very similar. They don’t need special treatment. Mine sits on our south-west facing kitchen window and gets dunked one a week with water I’ve taken from one of my aquariums during maintenance. It’s looking fine and has put out a new growth in the last few weeks.

Bratonia used to be called Miltassia, in case you're searching for information in it. I love this type of Onc intergeneric, they're so elegant looking with the star shaped blooms.

Super nice orchid to get from a supermarket regardless of what it is. Nice catch!

Yes, I was really shocked at what they have. They had masses of Phals, Brassia, Miltonia and Dendrobium. I settled for these three:
