Default Mislabeled: Free to good home

I am so irritated! I bought a Tolumnia 'Pink Panther.' I've waited for it to bloom, and it has. I bought a Tolumnia Jairak 'Firm White' and later, a Tolumnia Jairak 'Snow White.'. Guess what?! They are all the same! Exactly the same! None of them are white. All exactly pink and white.

I promised one to Waterwitchen but someone else can have one of the others for postage. Grrr.

Another reason correct labeling would be nice! Hausermann's says they bloom variably but, I still don't need three the same color.

Which one is the real name? When I search on those three names I find three very different flowers.

Where did you buy them from? What did they say when you called?

Remember, flowers vary dramatically with ambient temperatures when they're developing.

Hausermann's and the first from a hobby grower. Yes, when you search they are different. On my shelf all the same.

I'm not calling...I'm rehoming.

This is an irritating & frustrating situation, but you need to understand that most orchids sold in the US have gone through several sets of hands. I know that Hausermann's still produces some of their own material, but they are also sourcing from the production nurseries in Hawaii (and probably elsewhere).

The production nurseries do some of their own breeding, but they also buy flasks with seedlings/meristems from other sides - in many cases coming out of Taiwan. When you grow (& repot) large numbers of many varieties (as do Kalapana, Newman's, Hilo and others), on occasion the labels get mixed up.

I worked in a retail greenhouse that sold vegetables and people would pull the tags out to see the name of the plant and then carelessly put them in the wrong pots. I see it done every time I go to buy my herbs or veggies locally, too!

I used to sell retail water plants. Quickly learned to put on tags or codes differently to assure accuracy, i.e., can't remove tag and stick back in pot.

When dividing/potting hundreds of plants each year, yes, sometimes I or workers made a mistake. On the rare occasion something wasn't caught, if I had a complaint the customer received the correct item. Free if they returned the mistaken plant. Because that's how ya keep 'em coming back. Caveat emptor didn't fly at my place.

If we divided or made a mistake and couldn't figure out color, it either went back to grow until we could, or I'd put them on a NOID sale.

There's a local nursery here with the reputation of having a 50/50 chance of getting the correct color if plant isn't in bloom. They don't have near the customer base as the other place down the street.

Having said all that, Dolly's loss is my gain. And I can understand not wanting to fool with contacting the seller for a couple of Tolumnia. Too much hassle. Now a $100 orchid, sure. Or there was that time my dad bought a car, and thought he'd purchased the Oldsmobile. Ummm... Dad, it says Buick on that car.

In defense of Hausermann's, it says on their site that if the two they sold me bloom in winter they are whiter and if they bloom in spring, Pinker. Still, all three look exactly the same. I understand about tag switching. I don't think this was the case. The third one "Pink Panther" from another grower isn't anything like it should be, which is pink.

I still think you should call Hausermann, and tell them what you were expecting. Being unsatitsfied with a plant(that takes proper care, I’m sure you give) is not the same as a buying a pair of jeans that don’t fit and taking thing them back.
I would want to know how they handle it.
