Lockhartia maybe? (not a chance of getting the species without flowers... even then, a challenge because several of them look very similar)

Thank you! That must be it.

Yes, IDing the species would be impossible, when I said species I meant genus.

This isn't actually my plant, I saw it in my school's greenhouse. It is dying slowly because there looks to be no media in the pot and they barely water it, I'm tempted to take it and try to rehabilitate it... But I'll probably just buy one because I love the beautiful leaves.

There are quite a few green growths, and even the dead-looking ones are not necessarily dead. This is highly rescue-able.

Mine has sections of leaves that are more yellow than green but experience has shown me that these parts are still capable of sending out blooms, whereas in the past I'd cut them off. If you do rescue it,small bark and moisture will be needed and light requirements can be introduced gradually. A very rewarding plant to grow.

There are quite a few orchids that look like this.

Plants in the genus Lockhartia do have this kind of foliar arrangement, but so do some Dendrobiums and Eria.

Do any of these genera jog your memory some?

Without photos of flowers, it would be extremely difficult to tell what it is.

It also looks like you will not have to wait long for flowers to bloom. Maybe try posting pictures after it has bloomed and try identifying it again.
