Colmanara Birgit - any proper ID?
Default Colmanara Birgit - any proper ID?

I bought this orchid as a NOID. Its blooms are deep yellow and star shaped with a compact lip (sorry, I'm not used to describing orchid blooms). Orchideen Lucke and iloveorchid.com seem to sell this on a name of Colmanara Birgit. However I can't find any information on that name. Does this hybrid have any proper name or an idea of the parentage?

Your only hope of getting the name would be to contact the nursery which grew the plant and inquire of them. Even if you find photos that seem to match to a "T", your plant will forever be a NoID. There are simply too many hybrids out there. If having the name of a plant is important to you, then you should only by named plants. Otherwise, simply enjoy the flowers for what they are.

Thank you, I do understand that it will officially be noid forever. Of course I bought it for the lovely flowers and not for its name or parentage. But I would like to call it with a name that others who know the same hybrid recognize it by. If only it will end up being only that sell name Colmanara Birgit.

I have seen several complex Oncidium alliance hybrids with flowers supeficially similar to that. (I have one, Odontocidium Catatante). My point is that there are so many complex intergenerics that you most likely will not get a proper ID.

Just enjoy it, it should remain an easy care plant.
