Orchid photos
Hi,
I'm not an expert on orchids at all, but I do like them abd during a couple of trips I've taken photos of some of the orchids I've seen (e.g. in Colombia and the Philippines).
I've posted these photos on pbase at:
Orchids Photo Gallery by Markus Lagerqvist at pbase.com
Please take a look if anyone is interested, and if you know what species they are I'd be very happy if you'd like to comment the photos - just type a message and click Add Comment in the field below the photo.
Many thanks

Many of the species you have pictured on your site look familiar .. but I haven't had my cup of tea yet this morning ..
One of the best sources online is Internet Orchid Species Photograph Encyclopedia - Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia
If anyone makes a guess at an orchid - it can be checked here

Markus, your photographs are stunning. And I'm completely envious of you for having gotten to visit both Colombia and the Philippines. I'm not much good at identification, but I did want to compliment you for doing such a nice job with your camera. Congratulations.

Amazing photos! Thanks for sharing. I can imagine myself in the mountains of Colombia taking pics of orchids left and right. You are so lucky. Can you tell us about your experiences?

Hi,
Colombia was a great experience - a fantastically scenic and beautiful country with friendly people, and still off the beaten track for most tourist. We visited mainly the central parts of the country, spending much time in mid or high altitude, but also some lowland, forests. The forests were beautiful and I've never seen so much orchids in other countries I've visited.
I know that Colombia has a bad reputation when it comes to safety (drugs, guerilla, kidnappings), but the situation has been getting better and better over the last years, and large parts of the country are now pefrectly safe to visit. You should just have a good ground agent with sound knowledge about the country, or at least get updated information on which areas to avoid before you go there, then you'll be pefectly safe!
I visited mostly for birding, so our ground arrangements were organised by the private bird protection organisation Pro Aves Colombia. They were really excellent and have established a network of bird reserves in the country that are well protected and often also has accomodation close by. These areas would of course also be good for orchids.
So, all in all, Colombia is definitely a destination I would recommend!

I was born in Cali Colombia and have long wanted to visit Colombia as an Ecotourist, maybe see some family on the side, not sure. But I have heard of the legendary diversity to be found in the country and long to see it.
