Paph and Dendrobium NoIDs...couldnt help myself
Default Paph and Dendrobium NoIDs...couldnt help myself

My local flower shop occasionally buys orchids at auction and they arrive with no ID, to be honest I don't think most of the staff even know what species these are. Everytime I tell myself not to buy NoIDs, and then they are too lovely to leave without.

So, I recognize that there is a small chance in hell but I thought I'd share my new buys with y'all to see if you had any guesses.

The first 2 photos aren't Dendrobiums, pretty sure they are in the Cattleya group (Epicatts maybe) Really nice. The Paph is one of the "bulldog" type - complex hybrid, fairly cool-growing.

Really! Its root and stem system looked so much like my dendrobiums, I didn't even consider it could be a catt!

Flower really looks like an Epicatt. Impossible to say with precision, but if I were to guess at its parentage, I wonder if Epc. René Marqués is in its background someplace.

I'd agree, looks like maybe a cross with Pot. Free Spirit! Thanks for your thoughts!!!

google is your friend... looks like
(Epicattleya Rene Marguts x Pot. Free Spirit) 'ORCHIS'

BTW, do some further research and verify correct spelling on name, orchid labels are notoriously wrong at times.
BTW2, maybe someone with access to RHS database can check and verify correct cross name...

Better than RHS.... Orchidwiz (spelling and also the changes in species names, RHS search is quite unforgiving)

Rothara [Roth.] Yokosuka Story
(RHS nomenclature Sgr. Yokosuka Story (Rth.(Pot.) Free Spirit x Epc. René Marqués)

Sander: Rothara = Brassavola x Cattleya x Epidendrum x Laelia x Sophronitis
RHS: Sergioara = Cattleya x Epidendrum x Guarianthe x Rhyncholaelia

Very nice looking plants! Though they will forever be NoIDs, they are lovely all the same.

I would also say epidendrum/cattleya (epicatt-- you can really see epi "plastic doll") and bulldog. I just got a ginormous bulldog paph last year for $10 because it was noid. This noid is supposed to have more yellow in it. I have another which has a name Paph. [Mildred Hunter X Paph. Adam Hausermann] x Paph. Winston Churchill ‘Indomitable’

Fun fact, they are called "bulldog" paphs because they have the genetic line of Paph. Winston Churchill in them. Winston was nicknamed "Bulldog" due to his stubbornness while trying to save England from the Nazis in WWII.
