It could be Oncidium splendidum. The plant you mentioned is not a hybrid. Onc. splendidum 'Marty' is a named clone of the species. "x self" means that plant was self-pollinated, and this is one of the progeny.

Ok. I looked at 'Marty.' That is a mule ear. However your first picture looks more terete than that. Maybe we need a better picture because 'Marty' is similar to mine...and your picture looks nothing like my guys. O. 'Ollie Palmer.'

Possible Trichocentrum (Oncidium) splendidum. Here are photos of mine. Feel the edges of the leaves... the Eulophia is rough.(Desert plants usually are) The Trichocentrum is smooth. Don't go by the leaf color... that Trichocentrum has received both cold and a lot of light in its lifetime, and so leaves are reddish.

I have Oncidium (Trichocentrum) splendidum, and mine looks a lot like that plant. Can't give a species ID based on leaves and pseudobulbs alone, but it is a Trichocentrum.

e.s. suggested a tiny pot if you keep it in moss. I think your current pot is way too big. Try for half that diameter. If you keep it in a pot that is too large, and id does not dry sufficiently, it will rot. Another way to go is to mount it, or grow in a very well-drained medium, like "lava rock" (=scoria).

I have grown Oncidium splendidum (aka Trichocentrum splendidum) and it's hybrids for years - your plant looks very much to me like any number of trichocentrum species or hybrids, no way to know until it blooms but you are safe to grow it as a trichocentrum. Some of the trichocentrum species do have leaves that are a bit thicker than others, lending a somewhat "succulent" appearance, especially in photographs - I think they look more succulent than they actually are. They are definitely not soft, in fact they are quite rigid, like thick cardboard. Some have leaves that are mottled and some are not, splendidum leaves are generally not mottled but they will turn a purple/reddish color when grown in high temps. Hope this helps, I think you were already on the right track .
