In my part of Ohio, there are not many opportunities to find orchids or supplies so it makes sense to join, even though the nearest society is about fifty minutes away. We have two orchid vendors who belong and one of them sells supplies so I can just email them if I am looking for an orchid or supplies and they bring it to the meeting if they have it. Sometimes we have plant sales and vendors who give educational talks and bring orchids. Here, it costs $20 to be a member and you get a free orchid at the November meeting. If we have a meeting I know will be boring and no plants for sale, I stay home. Once a year, we have a show and I volunteer which often means that I get to buy orchids before any visitors are let inside to see our show. Being a member is worth it for someone who enjoys collecting orchids.
