Oncidium intergenerics from Trader Joe's
Calling all oncidium intergeneric experts and aficionados -
Need help identifying some impulse purchases!
(Is it even possible to tell Oncidium intergenerics apart? Or are there so many of them?)
So, I was seriously considering shelling out real money for some of these, shopping around real growers/sellers, looking at $20-$40/plant, not necessarily in bloom, plus shipping.... Walked into TJ's and saw these and - hey - these are basically exactly what I was looking at! But, only $15, multiple spikes. Potted in soil, which is weird but what the hey, I could take them home that day.
I think two of them might be varieties of Oncostele (formerly Colmanara) Wildcat, the dark one especially; but there are many varieties of Wildcat, so even if I'm correct it's still inexact.
1.
Oncostele Wildcat?
1a.
same plant as above
2.
different lip, more yellow in petals and sepals - also a Wildcat?
3.
Oncidium intergeneric from Trader Joe's
3a.
Onc intergeneric

I agree Oncostele Wildcat is likely for the first 2, and the third is probably Oncidium Tiger Crow, but in both cases there are many similar hybrids and it isn't possible to be certain. Still, very nice purchases for $15.
I presume they are in a peat/vermiculite type potting mix. It is quick to pot things up and lightweight to ship, and fine for short term greenhouse growth. Plants like this are often bought wholesale just as or before they come in spike, shipped bare root from overseas, and the final grower here turns them around ASAP. The peat mix isn't great for longer term use but with care you can enjoy the flowers before worrying about repotting.

If you think they're pretty, don't worry about a label.

I like to know what plants I have; but I also like paying $15 instead of 30. Plus, I have ~120 plants that I know (or think I know) exactly what they are, odd to have three junkyard plants in there with them. That's why I took the time to post the photos and ask the question; I understand not everyone would care about that.
These smell nice but not enormously so, which I assume has to do with the exact cross. If it has to do with conditions, maybe they'll smell better if I can rebloom them.
When they are out of bloom I'll repot them in a more typical mix.

Thanks very much! 1 down, 2 to go (though I looked at pics of Tiger Crow and that seems a likely fit)

Oncostele 'Wildcat'
Oncostele Wildcat 'Everlasting' is pretty similar, no?
Maybe more solid brown in petals and sepals? Maybe??? But now I'm thinking - back to Paph Mad Man's point -
these are just very hard to tell apart!
