Scraggler from K-Mart
I found this little scraggler thrown outside by its lonesome at my local K-Mart (I know, random right?). Does anyone have any idea what it is? I know I'll never get a true ID, but if I can just identify it enough to learn it's needs. I'm assuming a dendrobium of sorts. It's pretty pitiful, I've got it soaking in some Superthrive but I think all the roots are goners.
Thanks!

When I saw your photo, I thought it was a Vanda. Whatever it is, it does look healthy, even if it doesn't have roots.

I would guess a Den Phal hybrid.

I don't think it's a denphal; looks like a reed stem epidendrum to me. Depending on where you are located, they're in season now at the garden centers.

I thought that too but, I have never seen one for sale. However, if you look at the top, it doesn't seem to end like a denphal. From what I can see, the roots don't look bad. Either way, I'd treat it the same. Pot in bark, more sun for an epi, full sun in Indiana, and water regularly.

Thanks guys! I managed to save about 4 good roots and the rest were mush. She's all potted up and stabilized in her new home Hopefully she can make a comeback!

Should be Ok. Reedstem Epi's are quite resilient.

Now this is exciting! I've never seen a discarded orchid before... maybe I should start looking.
Nice find and yay for freebies!

I first thought "epidendrum." Any way, about roots. They will not "come back." New ones will grow from a new growth. If you see any green bumpy triangular buds on the base of the plant, those are your new canes.
