New to orchids but love them. Not really looking for specifics but id like a rough id for what kind of phalaenopsis I picked up the other day. They were $10 each so i jumped at the chance
^the normal size one
^and the mini
Both have healthy roots from everything i can tell and seem pretty healthy.
Are the leaves of the little one mottled? Uneven dark and light pattern? I seem to see that, or else it is shadows from somewhere else. If so, it is possible that the little one is a hybrid using Phal Zuma's Pixie in it. Is it fragrant? That might give another clue.
As far as phals, most of them now in stores are made in Taiwan, in huge ware-house green houses, and often do not have a name.
Theyre solid green leaves And i have limited (none)sense of smell right now due to allergies so im not sure. Well at least i was right identifying them as phalaenopsis. They had no labels at all other than orchid.
Believe it or not, both are the same species: Phalaenopsis unidentifiacus.
Phal hybrids are virtually impossible to name, unfortunately. There are thousands upon thousands of them. Still, we all grow and enjoy NoID orchids. Enjoy them for the beautiful flowers.
