I didn't see this until now, probably due to being otherwise occupied over the Christmas holiday.
It might be a hybrid with Phalaenopsis parishii in its background. That species has lip, petals and sepals similar to this one, but it is a very small plant compared to this one. |

Thanks for the reply estación. I see what you mean as parishii does have similar coloration. Do you think it's 100% Phalaenopis hybrid though?
I've been curious as to whether it's Phalaenopsis or a Phal x vandaceous hybrid, based on the petal shape being so round and the throat/lip/column being so centered, plus the substance looking much thicker than most Phalaenopsis hybrids. Or maybe it's just really well bred for a NoID Phal. |

The flower shape can also come from Phalaenopsis species that were previously considered in genus Doritis, now sunk into Phalaenopsis.
I don't know enough about Vandaenopsis (Vdnps., Phalaenopsis x Vanda) to help much, but I seem to recall leaves on this type of hybrid are narrow like Vanda. If somebody has better information, please step in. I seem to recall there are not many Vandaenopsis. |

I think that we can be certain that it is a hybrid, not a species. There are so many hybrids that look similar, you are not likely to get an ID, unless you get one from the grower. But it's beautiful, and looks very healthy, so enjoy it! There's lots of advice on this forum about keeping Phals happy and healthy, so that you can help it thrive, and rebloom for you.

Definitely hybrid, probably complex hybrid, and probably pure Phal (including Doritis, of course). There isn't anything about this that couldn't come from the typical mix of species found in compact / mini Phals. The size and shape of the lip probably shows a lot of Phal equestris. The plant and spike form probably comes largely from Phal pulcherrima. Add in some white with red lip standard Phal and blend for a couple generations and here we are.
The resemblance to Phal parishii could be coincidence, or it could indicate that a hybrid like Phal Anna-Larati Soekardi (parishii x pulcherrima) or Phal Partris (parishii x equestris) or Phal Gretchen (parishii x Cassandra) is in the mix, but then Phal lobbii is just as likely as parishii because the red purple color can come from many species. It doesn't appear to be any of those hybrids though. So, a pretty typical mini Phal that might have some Phal parishii influence, or might not. |

JungleMel, you might want to forward the photo to Peter Lin at Bigleaf Orchids, he may be able to suggest some hybrids which are similar.

This is likely Phalaenopsis Taisuco Micky (Phalaenopsis Golden Peoker X Phalaenopsis pulcherrima)
The larger broader lip comes and the upright inflorescence - comes from pulcherrima. This is most likely a clone - that was popular a few years back. Phal Golden Peoker - the harlequin mutaton gives this flower heavy substance and stay in bloom for months. This plant produce basal keiki freely from pulcherrima influence. This hybrid is very similar to Phalaenopsis Sogo Chabstic (Phalaenopsis Golden Peoker X Phalaenopsis Anna-Larati Soekardi) Phalaenopsis Joy Nancy Lady (Phalaenopsis Anna-Larati Soekardi X Phalaenopsis Bright Peacock) If you google images - you can find this flower listed under as Phal Taisuco Micky or Phal Sogo Chabstic.
