Dendrobium or.... ? Male
Default Dendrobium or.... ?

Bought a no ID from the nursery the other day. At the time the flowers were not open, just had buds. I like a surprise, you see. The flowers have opened to a deep red colour and have a very lovely fragrance. The leaves look like a dendrobium. Not sure though? Can anyone help?

Looks like a Cattleya of some kind to me. Gorgeous colour!

I didn't realise Cattleyas had flowers that small, but yeah it does look like those.

These mini-Catts are wonderful. I would not be surprised if it had Slc. Golden Wax in its background - the flower size, color, number of flowers, and heavy substance have that "look". Enjoy!

Slc. Golden Wax, mentioned above (Cattlianthe Golden Wax in current terminology), is a descendent of Cattlianthe Chocolate Drop. Chocolate Drop is a particularly glossy waxy often deeply colored flower, and many of its progeny follow suit. That is definitely what you have here, a Cattlianthe (Cattleya x Guarianthe) type hybrid, probably in the Chocolate Drop clan. It isn't Chocolate Drop itself, and there are dozens or hundred of hybrids (including some not named and registered) that resemble this, so a definite ID will not be possible.

Thanks very much for the info. How long will the flowers likely last? My bigger Catts only last two to three weeks.
