Schomburgkia ID ? Male
Default Schomburgkia ID ?

Hello,

Today my Schomburgkia opened his flowers, as it did passed 2 years. But i still do not have an ID…

The flowers are 7 cm big, purple with pink and have an yellow throat. They grow on an spike between 80 and 100 cm long, with 8 till 10 (most i had) blooms.

The plant has bulbs from 25 cm with 3 till 4 leaves 20 cm.

I hope someone can help me with the ID. I searched for hours allready but without result.

Greetings,
Patrick

I don't think you have species Schomburgkia tibicinis...the petals aren't quite right, the pbulbs and leaf shape aren't quite right, and the spike is far too short for that species.

The growths look more like a laelia but the flower colors and shape are close to the schom (now Myrmecophila) so my guess would be you have a hybrid that might have some tibicinis in it's background. Maybe also some laelia in there too. Maybe.

Those petals are wavy...didn't show like that in the other pic. W/out a tag andor a definitive id from the grower you got from...it's not really distinctive enough to say for sure. You're obviously growing it very well and its beautiful with or without a def name.

It is very like my Tibiana, which is a tibicinis hybrid (and very common around here). I couldn't say for sure that is what it is though.
