Normally I would - but both of these were given to me, so I took what came with them...which was nothing!

Can anyone help me identify these?? Male
Default Wow, now I know why people should always

see that there is a tag on any orchids they BUY. Some growers are notorious for leaving i.d. tags out of the pot. I know that this is not the case here, but I always look to make sure the tag is there.

Plant ID's most definitely helps for specific culture requirements, without it can only be very general. Here's some stuff that may or may not help you out. I looked everywhere on here and couldn't find an oncidium care sheet for ya.

Hermie,

Both plants are much too green - indicating that they are not getting enough light. If you can keep them on a west facing window sill permanently, that will certainly help.

The first one (perhaps an Oncidium or a multigeneric cross, or perhaps a Brassia/Odontoglossum type cross like Bllra) looks fine to me except it has been getting random waterings while trying to set new growths. I can tell because of the pleating of the leaves. If this were my plant I would definitely repot right now. Mine are potted in coarse bark mix in waterlily baskets. The reason for this is the design of the basket - fine mesh, shallow design and available in large sizes. Some of my plants are in 10" pots! repotting these guys now will not hurt them and may save lots of nearly rotting roots. I soak my bark for 24 hours in a KLN mix as per label instructions then pour the remaining solution through the repotted plant pot. I normally get tremendous response of new roots from this treatment. I have a Beallara (which is also a intergeneric) that blossoms and sends out new spikes at same time. This never happened until I started a proper fertilizer routine. It's in a 10" basket and has had 5 blossom periods in last 13 months.

Ross, great advice on the potting but that would only benefit her if she had a greenhouse with higher humidity and ample watering. For indoor growing the Onc alliance plant would benefit from a plastic or clay pot(depending on how much watered for which one to plant into). The DynagroKLN would be excellent for a jump start for the plant though! When culture is correct for anything in the Oncidium alliance, species or hybrids, they grow as though they were a common weed, becoming massive specimen plants quite quickly.
Since OrchidBoard didn't have any culture notes on Oncidiums, here's what American Orchid Society has. Hope it helps Renee(you need adobe acrobat reader to view it)

Thanks again guys. So much good information!! My goal is to get the phal repotted next week (I've looked at it's roots through the plastic container...they don't looked rotted, although I'll only be 100% sure once I get the plant out), and my onc probably in a month. My new paph that I'm ordering won't be able to be delivered until the daytime temps go above freezing...which knowing Michigan, won't be until June or so!!!
