Is it a cattleya? How do i take care of it? Is it a succulent? HELP! Also the plant was totally pulled out of the soil when i bought it... That is why I bought it because I wanted to save it. So what should I do with the roots? They are all shrivled up and brown. How so i save this little guy?

Not an orchid. You are correct about a succulent of some sort.

It looks like a jade plant to me. Definitely a succulent. There are people who grow it into a small bonsai style tree, BTW.

Yours looks in good shape from the picture--not shriveled from being too dry.

Good news is that they are usually pretty hardy and will grow new roots from the nodes in or near the soil--you've done the right thing by repotting it. I'd just water it when the soil feels dry to the touch and give it reasonable light.

Hope this helps!

Catherine

Definitely. Take it out of that huge pot or it will probably rot before it roots. Cut off all the dead roots. You might wind up with no roots at all and just stem cuttings.

Put all the pieces into a much smaller pot, no more than 2" in diameter. Set the bottoms of the stems 1/2 to 1 inch deep. Let it get dry between waterings. I mean let all the soil go dry, not just the top half millimeter. Put it someplace with very bright shade or dappled sun. When it starts growing you can water it a little more, but don't let it stay moist all the time.

Next warm season you can move it to a somewhat larger container. Don't overpot Crassulas. And, they like lots of sun once established, as well as cool summer nights. They are susceptible to spider mites and mealybugs.

Thank you all so much!! I havent checked this thread for a couple days because I just researched a little more and figured out what to do. However, I did have to cut off all of the roots and the plant seems to be doing a lot better already. Again, thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate it. Will definitely come back when I aquire an orchid.
