NOID help for an office rescue
Hi folks,
Any and all help in identifying this poor chap would be much appreciated, as well as pointers on care. It was fated for the bin, having been left to dessicate over a period of weeks/months on an office windowsill, until we rescued it. After a good soaking it's thrown up lots of small green shoots - are these flower stems, keikis/plantlets, leaves? At the moment I'm keeping it very slightly damp and out of direct sunlight; the potting medium is rough soil/fine bark topped with moss.
Thanks so much!

The forum is being a bit tricky about including attachments or even web links - the photos are at:

Looks to be a dendrobium of some sort but I'm FAR from an expert

NOID help for an office rescue
Yeap, it's seems to be a dendrobium. I'd go for the dendrobium care. If it's a den, lucky you - those are hard to break! If I were you, I'd repot it, providing ventilation holes on the pot for roots health, change the medium for an epiphyte appropriate medium (no soil), would water when almost dry and provide moderate light. The green things are possibly keikis.

Looks like a nobile type dendrobium to me; I'd get it out of the pot that it's in first thing and take a look at the roots; I'd conjecture that there are not any live roots remaining. There's a couple of ways to go about rehabbing these, if you are in a greenhouse, just set it in a pot sans media and keep it humid and shaded; give it intermediate temps and it should throw new growth at the base of the plant, provided its eyes are not too desiccated. It may also throw new growth along the pseudobulbs where the bloom spikes have senesced. If you are growing under lights, shoot for phalaenopsis light levels, trim back the decayed roots and pot in straight sphagnum in a very small pot--I'd probably use a 2-2.5" square band pot. Stake it in the pot so it doesn't wobble and keep the moss just moist. With either method, aim for high humidity 50-70%; bright shade 1500fc; good air movement & pretty consistent temps 75F day/60F night. Good luck and keep us posted.
