Default ID mini Phal from Lowes

Picked this up from Lowes clearance. Usually they have root rot or major league disease by the time they end up in clearance but this one is just limp because it's dried up, still some flowers on it.

I like the purple splash on white, the flowers appear to be up side down somehow. I've seen this mini Phal at Home Depot as well.

Can anyone ID it?ID mini Phal from Lowes-imageuploadedbytapatalk1438733812-494099-jpg

It's almost impossible to ID these phals, as they have been bred so much. But it's a totally stunning little plant, I love it!

Yeah, I read that. Before I didnt think about it, I even asked for help identifying my own NOID's.

But even though you find one that looks the same, it may still not be the same. Because it may have a little bit of another orchid in its genes.
Doesnt matter that much- but if you give it to someone, tells them the name you think it is- they lable it with that name. Then breed it- and there you go- then it may be wrong for a long time.

Lol, well, thats the easy way to explain in a language I don't speak

So I havent labled mine- if I do I will make sure to put a "NOID, looks like a [something], not sure"

If you did have a lable, and lost it- then an ID may help you remember and then its okay. i lost a tag, and I'm gonna ask the vendor, but thats not a NOID, thats a "I was stupid and lost the ID" kinda thing.

So be careful naming NOID's. I think I read this in this forum somewhere

But its a really beautiful plant, love the pattern on the flowers

I did label it, as Lowes, August 4. LOL.
Looks like widely available, I saw one on eBay exactly the same named "purple butterfly"
Item Number141725250217

Would you guys think? It's the real name or made up name?

I have been told these are Harlequin orchids, caused by mutations based on multiple mericlones of the plant. See this link.

It's a made up name. There is no such cross in RHS.

When you see a name in " " for an orchid that usually means the cultivar name, but not in this case as it's a NoID. It's being used to identify what it looks like.

There is no such thing as a 'harlequin' family either. It's a genetic mutation, in the same way that pelorism is (in which the petals resemble lips). Anything that looks like this is described to have harlequin patterning, but unfortunately, it has very little to do with the parentage of the hybrid.
