Is this a neostylis Lou sneary blue bird?

I picked a perfect day to visit to Gold Country Orchids. It was 104 degrees today in Sacramento/Lincoln today! I picked up 2 mini Catts, one bulb. ambrosia which the owner's son just broke it off from a main plant and gave it to me for $5, and a Neostylis Lou Sneary Blue Bird, as seen in the pictures below. Although I've heard good things about Gold Country, I'm having doubts about this one because the foliage doesn't look very curvy and the stem cannot hold up, unlike the Neostylis Lou sneary I've seen on OB and elsewhere. It rather looks like an overgrown Neofinetia falcata.

lou looks fine and you can join the rest of us who would like to toss our Lou out over the ocean


they hard to get to bloom right. just everything needs to be just right. They are goldilocks of orchids.

yours has had lot of sun and they tend to grow spindly if they are given more sun and not matched with the fertilizer. My own Lou is more compact bec its been thru Hell and back 2 times.

Isn't that true for any orchid? Maybe it's just easier for individuals to "get everything right" for some, and not others.

I find Neostylis Lou Sneary to be no more difficult to bloom than any mini-vanda with falcata in it, with many of them going in- and out of bloom a few times a year.

Yours must be in great shape with only two trips to hell and back. Mine's been down that road at least four times and even sat in my kitchen garbage can for about two hours before I pulled it back out. But the struggle to figure this one out has been worth it. Mine bloomed last February, and is now putting out another spike with 8 or 9 buds on it - first time I got this pant to flower more than once a year.

Mine is very fussy. When the blooms from February faded, the leaves started to exhibit signs of way too much light. But I had not moved the plant at all! It was in the same exact spot it had been in for the past 6 months. I diminished the light a bit and all seems ok now and even threw up the new spike. This one always keeps me busy.

Tell me about it! I've had my neos since end of March and none has bloomed for me. When I repotted the Neostylis today it turns out that the two growths are two separate plants. A very good root snapped.

If it doesn't bloom next spring, this is going off to auction. I'm a bit disappointed at the foliage. Is it possible to get it into the nice and orderly curvature again?
