Default NoID Paph

I had this paph years ago and it didn't make it through one hot summer, any idea of an ID so I can get another as I loved it a whole lot!

Definitely not lawrenceanum.
Doesn't really look like callosum, either.

Most likely hybrid of some sort.
You can't ID this thing once you lose the tag, especially when the flower looks so "muddy" like this case.

Hi tirnie, I concur with Neil (NYCOM) that it's a NOID hybrid and can't be ID'd precisely, but it definitely belongs to what's called Maudiae-type (Paph. Maudiae = lawrenceanum x callosum), one of the major breeding directions in Paphs for over a century. So while you'll never find an exact duplicate of your deceased Maudiae-type Paph, there are many similar hybrids from which to choose a replacement.

If you like flowers very similar to this, then I recommend getting certain species rather than hybrids, which tend to differ a lot and this color is actually not as common as totally dark ones or white/green flowers, two of common color forms among this sort of hybrids.

So, try paphiopedilum lawrenceanum, callosum or barbartum.
Although the amount of the green on the petals varies, usually these species will have much darker petals rather than greens.
Buy them all or a few plants of each species (lawrenceanum might not be available readily) to see the variability and thus you are more likely to end up with something you like.

Happy shopping and happy growing!

Oh, one more tip, I dont' know how hot you kept your plant in Canada, but these won't be killed by heat unless it is REALLY hot plus dry.

Among the three species mentioned, lawrenceanum is the one that appreciates the warmth the most year around (not hot), the other two need warm summer but need some cool months to do well for the long term.

Good luck!
