Monnierara? Clowesia? Wrong tag? Female
Default Monnierara? Clowesia? Wrong tag?

I stumbled upon this guy; it's the only Catasetinae that I've seen offered at the greenhouse. I've really been wanting to try Catasetinae!

I do have a couple concerns:
-The tag is labeled Monnierara Midnight Magic 'Witchcraft' from Michel Orchid Nursery. I have a feeling that the original tag might have been switched though.
-It's in a 2" pot, 3 older, shriveled bulbs, 1 leafless bulb, and a new growth starting. As you can see, this plant is pretty small. I'm wondering if it's a Clowesia, or Clowesia hybrid?
- Should this be moved into a bigger/deeper pot soon? The pot is around 2" tall, and 2" wide at the top. I haven't watered it; there are two roots poking out, but they are less than 1/2" long.

Whatever it is, I am happy to have it. I apologize for any errors.

No way to know what you've got until it blooms, and even then you might not be certain...

I don't have any Monniera among my Cats, but fwiw the one I do have with similar short, fat pbulbs is a Clowesetum 'Black Jade'. But as mentioned, only a bloom will tell for sure. That one is almost ready to start watering and fertilizing, but waiting a bit too long is definitely better than jumping the gun

I have a Monn. Millennium Magic 'Witchcraft' AM/AOS. Which is a hybrid of Catanoches x Mormodes. I'm sure it's closely related to your Midnight.

And, it looks just like my Witchcraft...only a bit smaller. The first couple of years mine stayed small and super rounded and then last year's growth grew a bit taller...and this was it's first bloom. Witchcraft blooms on a small plant...relatively speaking. Many Ctsm are huge...this one isn't. Some might be a bit more elongated but mine was more like yours those first couple of years.

This was my first bloom this past fall/winter (2 spikes!)- The actual pot it's planted in is sitting inside that 6" clay pot for stability but that was a 4" air cone. Not a big plant at all. When I did the repot last month, I think it went into a 5" pot. Small compared to some of my Ctsm family.

As Ray pointed out, there is no way of knowing whether or not your tag is right until it blooms though. There are many that have that same appearance.

If this was mine I would be repotting it asap. You don't want to squish the new pbulb against the pot and you do want the new roots to establish as they emerge.

Nice pick up!
