ID this purple, extremely fragrant orchid
My Aunt bought this purple orchid at the local nursery for my Mum, and they have no idea what type it is.
It is an odd orchid as unlike others, it is very fragrant - you can smell the perfume from a room away.
I have more photos available in my album titled Unknown Orchid!

As some additional info, it is a hybrid Cattleya, a cross between several other hybrids (or species) The advantage of a hybrid is that they are more though then species Cattleya's. Hope your mum enjoy's it!!

I think Pat'sCatts is saying that hybrid Catts are "tougher" than species Cattleyas (I hope I have that right Patt!) - often the cross can add various strengths from the parentage to the resulting cross, which can make them more tolerant of the growth variables such as temp ranges, light exposure, disease resistance, etc.
There are a TON of purple Catt's on the market - it would be very hard to identify which hybrid you have exactly, but if you provide yours with a general Cattleya culture, you should be fine.
Pretty blooms AND fragrant? That is my two basic requirements for an orchid! Hope it does well for your aunt!

Wolfrott from Windstone Editions forum??? HI!!! Small world!
Lovely lavender catt that, maybe some warscewiczii not too far off in it? If you don't have many catt hybrids, you'll find that many if not most have lovely fragrances.
There have been a few threads here about fragrant orchids, there are some catts in the lists. If night fragrance isn't an issue, the species Rhyncolaelia digbyana is superb. One of my favourite hybrids for daytime fragrance is Potinara Cloud's Creek 'Heavenly Scent', if there's an Oz supplier for it.
(yes, I do agree hybrids will usually be a bit more forgiving of inexperienced culture than species, and many will bloom more often too.)
