Hi everyone. My mom recently bought me an orchid from Lowe's. The identification tag says that it is an Iwan. Apple Blossom, but it looks nothing like the photos of that orchid and it has no fragrance. Can anyone tell me what this is?
I think it very well could be what the tag says it is. If it just recently opened, then the scent might not be present yet. Also, there are yellow varieties of this grex...I know of 'Golden Elf' but I'm sure there are others. I do not own one of these, but the shape definitely looks like Iwan. Apple Blossom to me.
It does look like one of the yellow cultivars of Iwanagara Apple Blossom. I forget if mine is scented. But it usually takes a few days for some of them to develop scent.
CariC:
Try "Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Yellow Star'.
Here is a link to a Flicker page that shows it: https://www.flickr.com/photos/25699264@N02/4401581347/
The striping in the throat and the hint of a shading around the petals sure looks familiar to your photo. I just Googled "iwanagara Apple Blossom yellow" and switched to the 'Images' page and scanned through - this looks real close, though it is really not definitive.
Hope this helps!
One of the Lowe's in my area has Iwan. Apple Blossom 'NN'; buds weren't open on it yet but Google shows it as one of the yellows. I'd bet yours is from the same batch. Grr I didn't have the money that day but I really want to go get it, been wanting an Apple Blossom.
