Any ideas as to what this is?
Hello everyone!
This is a mounted orchid that has been housed in the museum collection that I am working with the staff to revamp. The ID tag is long gone and I am not sure if it will bloom this year as it was neglected for quite sometime.
I want to say it is of the Dendrobium family, but I have some doubt.
If it blooms, I will probably be able to determine, but the stalk is so notable, I thought someone might recognize it.
Thanks!

Gee I've read of a particular orchid that was noted for having a stalk like that. But I can't remember what it was I do think it was a Dendrobium tho. I know that is not much help

Silken:
Well, we are in the same boat - I think I know what it is and the pronounced nodes really are jogging something in my memory, but I can't remember. I was thinking not only of a Dendrobium, but perhaps a form of Chysis?
Not sure what it is, but it is really cool looking to me! Thanks for looking!!

Dendrobium pendulum is a pretty good match, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had some close relatives with similar pseudobulbs, and you definitely have to see flowers to be sure.

Thanks, PaphMadMan! I will be waiting and watching for blooms, but I am not sure it will even try this year as it has not received any real attention for some time. Hopefully it will try to squeeze out at least one, but time will tell.
Thanks again - I appreciate it.

I just checked Den. pendulum on Jay's Orchid Encyclopedia and the appearance of the large-nodes and the overall canes are almost exactly like the one at the museum.
Thanks for the cue - I will let you know if any blooms develop.
I knew I could count on the Orchidboard crew!!!

Yes I go for D. pendulum (or similar species); pretty different from Chysis (pseudos and leaves).

I believe there is another species in cultivation which has the same "bony hand" look as D. pendulum. I can't for the life of me recall it right now........

I agree with that as well, but can't think of it. I think I was looking at one and stumbled upon the other at the time.

It does resemble my D. pendulum, though your, "knuckles," are less defined than the ones on mine. Yours might simply be better hydrated, however. It looks very similar.
