I am wondering if anyone can please help me identify this orchid? I'm pretty sure its a paphiopedilum. My friend's father gave it to me as a gift from his personal collection but it didn't have a tag on it. I think it looks similar to a rothschildianum, but the little "slipper cup" isn't as dark as pictures of roths I've seen. It has only flowered twice in the 5 years I've had it, but I think it has seemed healthy and has increased in size. The flowers are great, and the stems are an amzing dark purple with that nice fuzz fuzz. She's about to start opening again now, so I would really appreciate hearing anyone's opinion about what she might be. Thanks.
Philippense, or hybrid thereof like St. Swithin, or any number of terrific multi-bloomer with philippinense as a parent or grandparent.
Can't name a specific one. All Paphiopedilum hybrids are seed grown, and hence, resemble each others like brothers and sisters, but these can't be cloned, except by old fashioned division of the momma plant.
Thank you! It certainly does look like a St. Swithin after a google search. Any suggestions about fertilizer/amount of light/temps when flowering? Shes about to open up again.
