Yeah, Paph. spicerianum is a pretty decent species for slipper beginners in terms of ease of care. They can grow into small bushes in a matter of a few years if they're well cared for and you don't divide it. Once they get large enough, they can bloom (at least) twice a year. And because spicerianum is a fairly small grower, it's easy to find space for!
It should be able to handle shady conditions, intermediate to warm temperatures, and a typical watering routine of 1 - 2 times a week is usually good, though you always have to find out what works in your conditions.
