Looking for ID for a mini phal-type dendrobium Male
Default Looking for ID for a mini phal-type dendrobium

Hello everyone,
I'm back again with another ID question. This time it's for a miniature phalaenopsis-type Dendrobium, at least that's what I think it is. I believed for a long time that it was a cattleya, right up until it bloomed for me. I have another phal-type Dendrobium I believe to be Den. bigibbum. It's significantly larger than this little NoID, but the blooms are strikingly similar.

The largest pseudobulb on this NoID is 3.5", the spike is short with 6 creamy white blooms. I'm guessing that this NoID is a young plant, and this is probably only the second time it's bloomed. The last clue I have is that this NoID appears to be deciduous. I thought phal-types were evergreen, but I could certainly be wrong.

Basically I'm looking for clues to its species or grex name. I'm hoping a seasoned orchid vet here would be able to easily ID this little one. Any clues would help, thanks.

Default More info

I forgot to mention a few minor details in my original post. The petals have a small slit in the upper portion, before they take their downward curve. The labellum has a pubescent strip with a faded chartreuse color. The blooms are not scented. I included another closeup photo of the bloom and some of the odd-shaped flower buds.

Where did you get it? The vendor you purchased it from might be able to help you.

It looks reminiscent of Dendrobium Mini Snowflake, mine has pseudo bulbs that are about six inches tall. Mine is a couple of years old though. Maybe this is a younger version.

I bought it from a high-end nursery that I used to work for. If my memory serves me right, they get their orchids from Newman's Nursery in Hawaii. Of course their website provides few details.

Email them with a photo!! I'm sure they can send you a positive ID and that will give you the paper trail you need to show this plant if you want.

Mini Snowflake is nothing like this.
It is a nobile hybrid.

This one is a phal type hybrid.
While I cannot tell you exactly what it is, the last time I saw such a small plant in white bloom was Pegasus. just throwing a possibility but it's nearly impossible to ID something like this because white flowered dendrobiums are just too common.
It could just be a inferior version of Emma White (or some other tall white dendrobium) although the flower shape is not Emma White. just an example.

I wonder if your plant will get much bigger.
nice and cute for now I guess.

I contacted Newman's Nursery and they told me it was Dendrobium Burana White. It's not a true miniature, and it will get bigger. I actually have a Den. Emma White and it's much larger than this little Burana.

Good that you got the name.
I had burana white and didn't know it flower on such small cane.
Mine was about as big as Emma White. just a bit shorter.

Phal Dendrobium? Is there such a thing? I have much to learn but I thought it was one or the other.

Phalaenopsis orchids have been hybridized with Dendrobiums. I have one of these. Mine grows mostly like a dendrobium, but it requires no winter rest.
